Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, which overlaps almost exactly with the months many seasonal residents are away. If your home will sit empty during storm season, a little preparation before you leave goes a long way.
Before you head north
- Decide who will close your hurricane shutters if a storm threatens, and make sure they have keys and instructions
- Store or secure outdoor furniture, planters and grills
- Photograph each room for your insurance records
- Keep your insurance policy and contact list somewhere you can reach from anywhere
- Leave your AC set to keep humidity down rather than turning it off
- Clear gutters and trim branches near the roof
- Share your contact info and any alarm codes with your home watch provider
When a storm is coming
Our pre-storm service for monthly members includes closing or installing shutters and bringing in outdoor furniture, so you don't have to scramble to find help from hundreds of miles away.
After the storm passes
Once it's safe, we check on your home and send you a post-storm status report with photos. If something was damaged, we're your boots on the ground and can meet contractors or adjusters on your behalf.
The goal is simple: you shouldn't have to wonder how your home made it through.
